I’ve found that some folks who signed the CASSE position statement have assumed they are members of CASSE. If only that were the case! Then we’d have almost 17,000 members. But no, signing the position makes you a signatory, not a member. Valued and appreciated, for sure, but consider this scenario…

Let’s say you’re a politician—at any level—and you get it about limits to growth and the need for a steady state economy. But you also know that growth is still the holy grail in campaign politics. You’d like to venture outside of the box, incorporating some steady statesmanship into your town hall talks, but you’re not comfortable being the Lone Ranger.

Here’s something to jack up your comfort quotient: the knowledge that organizations exist—organizations with dues-paying members—focused on advancing the steady state economy! It’s Poli Sci 101. The existence of dues-paying members speaks volumes to a politician at any stage in their career. Non-profits with living, breathing members serve as a barometer of public support.

So please, join CASSE today! You never know which politician you’ll empower, which party you’ll influence, and which policies you’ll promulgate.

After 8 months as a research associate and 1.5 years as managing editor, Alix Underwood has been promoted to assistant director. Alix will continue to manage the Steady State Herald, CASSE's flagship publication. She will also supervise entry-level staff, help with a broad range of projects, and step in as acting director when needed.

Brian Czech and Policy Specialist Dave Rollo represented CASSE at the United States Society for Ecological Economics (USSEE) conference in Oberlin, Ohio, June 18-21. A Degrowth Assembly was held in conjunction with the conference. CASSE had an exhibitor booth resulting in numerous new signatories, members, volunteers, and collaborators including prospective guest authors, board members, and advisors.

Rollo (L) connects the dots from growth-obsessed politics to the existential threat of Artificial General Intelligence. Keynote speaker (and CASSE board member) David Orr (R) fields the question.

Mathangi Mohanarajah is CASSE's data manager. She helps build the Keep Our Counties Great database and manages CASSE contacts. Mathangi has a B.S. in Environmental Science from UNC-Chapel Hill. She firmly believes in CASSE's vision and the benefits a steady state economy can provide for all.

OneNature Institute endorsed the CASSE position on economic growth. OneNature supports organizations and companies working across land use, conservation, climate, and sustainability. They focus on aligning partner actions with community well-being and sustainability goals.

We introduced the Sustainable Monetary Policy Act, focused on reforming Federal Reserve culture, expertise, and policy. Stay tuned for the closely related Sustainable Capital Markets Act, to be kicked off in the Steady State Herald in August.

On October 7, the Canadian Association for the Club of Rome (CACOR) will host Brian Czech for a presentation and discussion on the Sustainable Monetary Policy Act. Look out for a link on our Presentations page.

Cornwall, UK, Chapter Director Rodrigo Palmer published a blog article titled "Post-growth ecological liberalism: A regenerative care economy within planetary limits" on Liberal Democratic Voice.

Gaya Herrington, an internationally known thought leader, signed the CASSE position at the USSEE conference. Herrington conducts transformative research and advocates for a post-growth economy. She is a prolific conference speaker and interviewee for TV, radio, and print.

Michael Mezzatesta is a prominent online storyteller at the intersection of economics, climate, and culture. He makes complex issues accessible for tens of millions of monthly, mainstream followers. His popularity bodes well for advancing the steady state economy.

This quarter, we published two Keep Our Counties Great case studies by Dave Rollo. Charleston County, South Carolina is using a "greenbelt" to limit sprawl in the face of contradictory, pro-growth goals. Meanwhile, residents in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania are banding together against the burgeoning threat of data centers.

Ted Turner died on May 6 at the age of 87. The founder of CNN, Turner was the rare billionaire who leveraged his resources to champion conservation. His initiatives in the U.S. West, including efforts to restore bison and wolf populations, were bold and sometimes controversial. He was committed to long-term land stewardship. CASSE extends our condolences to Turner's loved ones.
